Study Reveals Moderate Alcohol Consumption Impairs Brain Health
A recent study published in the journal Alcohol has found that even moderate alcohol consumption can negatively impact brain health. Researchers studied 45 healthy adults aged 22 to 70, using MRI scans to measure cortical thickness, brain volume, and blood flow. The study revealed that moderate alcohol intake is associated with reduced brain blood flow, particularly affecting the frontal and temporal lobes, which are crucial for cognitive functions such as thinking, memory, and language. The effects were more pronounced in older adults, suggesting a potential link to cognitive decline and dementia. The study challenges previous beliefs that moderate alcohol consumption might have health benefits, emphasizing that there may be no safe level of alcohol intake.
