Germany Allocates $1.5 Million to KDE Community to Enhance Open-Source Software
Germany's Sovereign Tech Agency has allocated €1.3 million (approximately $1.5 million) to the KDE free and open-source software community. This funding is part of the Sovereign Tech Fund aimed at supporting the development of KDE's Plasma desktop environment and other software projects. KDE is known for its contributions to Linux desktop environments, including the Dolphin file manager and Kdenlive video editor. The funds will be used to improve KDE's infrastructure, security, and integration capabilities, promoting digital sovereignty and reducing reliance on software from major U.S. tech firms.
