Flash Flood Warning in Atlanta: Torrential Rain Causes Life-Threatening Conditions
A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of metro Atlanta, including eastern Fulton and west-central DeKalb counties, as heavy thunderstorms have already dropped 2 to 3 inches of rain in the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City reported that the warning will remain in effect until 11:15 p.m. EDT on May 20, 2026. Flash flooding has been observed along the I-75/I-85 corridor near downtown Atlanta, with some areas experiencing even higher rainfall totals. Urban neighborhoods such as Midtown, Grant Park, Virginia Highland, and West End are facing rapidly worsening conditions. The NWS has urged residents to move to higher ground immediately, as the situation poses life-threatening risks.
