Severe Weather Threatens Southern Michigan with Tornadoes and Hail
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms across southern Michigan, affecting approximately six million residents. Atmospheric conditions are conducive to the development of strong tornadoes, large hail, and severe wind gusts. Areas from Muskegon to Detroit, including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Flint, are under a level 3 risk out of five for severe weather. The tornado risk is particularly high in southwest, south-central, and southeast Lower Michigan, with a five to nine percent chance of tornadoes within 25 miles of any point. The storms are expected to originate in Wisconsin and move southeast, potentially bringing hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 70 mph.
