French Travel Industry Faces Sharp Decline in Summer Bookings Amid Global Unrest
The French travel industry is experiencing a significant downturn in summer bookings, as highlighted by a recent report from the EdV-Orchestra Observatory. The report attributes this decline to global unrest near the Red Sea, which has indirectly affected international travel numbers. The decrease in bookings has been gradual, building up as instability in the region grew. While local travel within France remains stable, international and mid-distance travel have seen a sharp decline. Notably, reservations for destinations like the United States have dropped by nearly 40%. The outlook for the peak summer months of July and August 2026 is concerning, with passenger numbers expected to be 10% lower than the previous year. Long-distance travel is particularly affected, showing a decline of one-fifth, despite some gains in countries like Canada and Norway.
