Macron and Germany Enhance Nuclear Deterrence Cooperation Amid Strategic Shifts
French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized the importance of nuclear deterrence in Europe, highlighting Germany's role as a key partner. This development follows a recent meeting at the Nörvenich air base in Germany, where a French nuclear-capable Rafale jet was temporarily hosted. The meeting marked the first major high-level defense discussion since the collapse of the joint Future Combat Air System project. Macron's strategy, termed 'forward deterrence,' aims to extend France's nuclear umbrella to other European countries, with Germany playing a 'vanguard role.' This initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate European missile-defense systems, complementing existing frameworks like NATO's nuclear sharing arrangement.
