Historical Events on August 13: Berlin Wall Construction and Apollo 11 Astronauts Honored
August 13 marks significant historical events, including the start of the Berlin Wall's construction in 1961 and a celebration for the Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969. The Berlin Wall, erected by East German security forces, symbolized the division between East and West Berlin and remained until 1989. On the same date in 1969, New York City held a ticker-tape parade for Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, celebrating their historic moon landing.
