The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is advocating for a pragmatic approach to decarbonizing the UK's heavy goods vehicle (HGV) sector. Despite the industry's commitment to reducing emissions, structural barriers such as high costs, limited infrastructure, and diverse operational requirements hinder progress. SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes emphasizes the need for a technology-neutral pathway that allows for both low- and zero-emission technologies, rather than a one-size-fits-all regulatory approach.
