NC State Student Explores Horticulture's Impact on Neurodivergent College Students' Well-being
Isabelle Morgan, a master's student in agricultural education and human sciences at NC State, is conducting thesis research on the experiences of neurodivergent college students with horticulture and the natural environment. Her study specifically focuses on how gardening influences the lives of horticulture students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Morgan, who herself has ADHD, aims to understand the factors that attract neurodivergent students to horticulture and identify ways the industry can better support and recruit them. Her research is rooted in her personal experiences, as she credits gardening and outdoor activities during her childhood with helping her maintain focus and motivation throughout her education. This academic pursuit combines her background in horticultural science with her current studies in family and community sciences, reflecting a broader interest in how nature can benefit individuals and communities.
