Justice Conservation Fund Launched to Protect US Forests from Logging
The Justice Conservation Fund, a new initiative by Dogwood Alliance and New Alpha Community Development Corporation, aims to protect US forests from logging, particularly in low-income, rural communities of color. The fund focuses on purchasing and preserving community- and tribal-owned forests, turning them into hubs for recreation and eco-tourism. This initiative responds to the negative impacts of the biomass wood pellet industry, which has led to deforestation and pollution. The fund has raised over $1 million, with a goal of $5 million, to support forest protection and community-led environmental justice projects.
