Toyota's Woven City: A Living Lab for Futuristic Technologies
Toyota's Woven City, a futuristic experimental community in Japan, has begun to take shape with the first residents, known as 'Weavers', moving in. Announced at the 2020 CES technology show, Woven City is designed as a real-world lab for developing new technologies. The city is located near Mount Fuji, on the site of a former Toyota factory. It serves as a 'Proof of Concept' (POC) environment where residents and engineers can experiment with innovative ideas. The city aims to foster a culture of experimentation, allowing for the development of technologies that may not be directly related to automobiles. The community includes public labs where residents, including children, can interact with and report on technological developments. The city also hosts companies like Z-kai Group, which is testing educational technologies, and UCC, which is using AI to study customer behavior in its coffee shop.
