Magnetic MXene Microrobots Achieve High Microplastic Removal Efficiency in Lab Tests
Researchers have developed a magnetically actuated microrobotic platform using two-dimensional MXene for the efficient removal of microplastics from soil and aquatic environments under laboratory conditions. The study, published in NPG Asia Materials, highlights the use of MXene microrobots, which are capable of agile, wireless, and precise maneuverability. These microrobots, integrated with nickel nanoparticles, demonstrated high removal efficiencies of microplastics in lab tests, achieving up to 94% removal in aqueous environments. The study emphasizes the potential of these microrobots in environmental remediation, although further research is needed to address ecological safety concerns.
