Largest Male White Shark 'Contender' Provides New Insights into Migration Patterns
Contender, the largest male white shark tagged in the Atlantic by OCEARCH, has provided new data on shark migration patterns through recent satellite pings. Tagged in January 2025 off the Florida/Georgia coast, Contender's movements have been tracked as he migrates along the East Coast of the U.S. and into Canadian waters. Recently, Contender was detected moving rapidly into deeper waters off the coast of Georgia, which scientists suggest could be related to breeding behaviors. This movement pattern is common among mature male white sharks, offering insights into their seasonal behaviors and migration routes.
