North Korea Upgrades Urban Combat Training Facilities Amid Reports of Increased Troop Deployments to Russia

North Korea is upgrading its urban combat training facilities at a large military base near Pyongyang, according to NK Pro analysis of satellite imagery. Construction began in June on 10 new buildings at the Korean People’s Army (KPA) Training Base No. 60 in Kangdong, with their location suggesting use for target practice or infiltration training. Another large building was constructed in a dedicated Military Operations on Urbanized Terrain (MOUT) area within the base. Similar upgrades and changes have been tracked at a larger MOUT area in Unsan County, previously linked to KPA Unit 630 under the 11th Corps (Special Operations Forces). These developments occur as reports suggest Pyongyang may send more troops to assist Russia in its war against Ukraine, with both bases having been used for special forces training connected to previous deployments of over 10,000 soldiers to Russia.
