Self-Proclaimed 'Squirrel-ologist' Captures Viral Squirrel in New York Park
A viral video showing a squirrel chasing visitors in Thompson Park, Watertown, New York, has led to the intervention of Chantel Horbacz, a local hairdresser and licensed wildlife rehabilitator. The squirrel, named Thompson after the park, was seen causing a commotion as it chased people around, prompting Horbacz to capture it. She explained that the squirrel's behavior was not aggressive but likely due to being fed by humans as a juvenile, making it overly friendly. Horbacz reassured the public that small mammals like squirrels rarely carry rabies. Thompson will be relocated to a more suitable forested area to prevent further incidents.
