Cultural Journalist Saleh Gharib al-Obaidli to Deliver Lecture on Folk Songs and Place Memory
Saleh Gharib al-Obaidli, a veteran Qatari researcher and cultural journalist, is set to deliver a lecture titled 'Place Memory in Folk Songs' at the Cultural Council of the Majlis of Seniors, affiliated with the Ehsan Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care. The lecture is part of a cultural program aimed at enriching the intellectual and cultural engagement of older people in Qatar. Al-Obaidli will explore the relationship between traditional songs and the places they originate from, emphasizing how these songs serve as oral archives that preserve details of everyday life and document social and geographical environments. His extensive research into Qatari heritage will be highlighted, showcasing examples of folk songs associated with specific places and how they have preserved images and names in popular memory. Al-Obaidli's career spans several decades, during which he has contributed significantly to documenting Qatar's intangible heritage through his work in cultural journalism and heritage research.
