Dangerous Surf and Coastal Flooding Expected in Southern California
Southern California is experiencing hazardous surf conditions due to storm surges from Hurricane Fausto and Hurricane Genevieve. Hurricane Fausto, which formed off Central America on July 16, has been pushing storm surges toward the region, while Hurricane Genevieve, briefly a Category 5 storm, is currently running parallel to the Mexican coast. These storms, combined with swells from the Southern Hemisphere, have created frequent and hazardous rip currents along the coast. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of potential minor coastal flooding as a result of these conditions. A high-pressure system that has dominated the region's weather is retreating eastward, allowing for a temporary cooling trend. However, forecasters expect the system to return later this week, bringing higher temperatures.
