George Mason University Establishes Virginia Quantum Hub with $3.7 Million Grant
George Mason University is establishing the Virginia Quantum Hub (VQH) with the support of a $3.7 million GO Virginia grant. This initiative aims to create an inclusive quantum ecosystem through public-private partnerships, focusing on intellectual property generation, capital attraction, workforce training, and addressing global innovation needs in sectors like health, logistics, national security, and energy. The VQH will feature open-architecture quantum hardware and shared infrastructure, including a cryogenic lab, a quantum optics facility, and one of the only TreQ-designed open-architecture quantum computers in the United States. The university has also partnered with Oxford, England-based TreQ to deploy and operate this quantum computing infrastructure.
