MacArthur Foundation Awards $500,000 Grant to inewsource for U.S.-Mexico Border Reporting
inewsource, a non-profit investigative journalism organization, has received a $500,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. This three-year investment is intended to support inewsource's community-focused reporting along the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly in the South Bay region of San Diego. The grant acknowledges inewsource's commitment to in-depth, authoritative, and balanced journalism, as demonstrated by recent projects such as 'HOME SICK,' an investigation into the human impact of the Tijuana River sewage crisis. This project involved interviewing over 100 individuals affected by pollution and recently earned a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Innovation. The funding will enable inewsource to continue its work, which includes covering topics ranging from data center projects and immigrant detentions to healthcare access issues in border communities.
