Nebraska Athletics Proposes Convention Center Relocation Near Memorial Stadium, Governor Considers Privately Funded Option
Nebraska Athletics has proposed relocating a planned convention center to an area adjacent to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. This new proposal suggests a privately funded development, which has garnered attention from Governor Pillen. The governor's office indicated that he is open to viable ideas for a convention center in Lincoln, particularly those that ensure fiscal responsibility and protect taxpayers. This comes as a competing proposal for a convention center at Block 90, which would require $150 million in public funding, faces scrutiny. The Convention Center Facility Financing Assistance Act Board has not met for four months, following Governor Pillen's request to table the Block 90 project for 30 days earlier this year due to concerns about the return of state sales tax revenue.
