Nanodiffraction Imaging Sheds Light on Polymer Crystal Structures
Researchers have used advanced nanodiffraction imaging to explore the nanoscale crystalline architecture of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), a thermoplastic polymer. The study, published in Communications Materials, employed electron nanodiffraction and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) to reveal how thermal processing affects PLLA's multi-lamellar crystal structures. The findings show that processing conditions influence the orientation and packing of lamellar crystals, which are crucial for the material's mechanical properties.
