High Surf and Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect for Los Angeles and Orange Counties
A high surf advisory and coastal flood advisory are in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday for parts of Los Angeles and Orange County coastlines. Large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet are expected on south and southwestern-facing beaches, while west-facing beaches may see waves of 4 to 7 feet. These conditions are accompanied by strong rip and longshore currents, posing significant risks to swimmers and beachgoers. Flooding has already been reported in Seal Beach, Zuma Beach, and Long Beach, with water entering homes and streets. The elevated surf is linked to Tropical Storm Marie, which remains hundreds of miles off the California coast. Additionally, high tides exceeding 7 feet are expected early in the week, increasing the risk of coastal flooding.
