Industrial Dispute Ends Europe's New Generation Fighter Project
The Future Combat Air System (FCAS) program, a collaborative effort between Germany, France, and Spain to develop a new generation fighter jet, has been terminated. The decision follows unresolved industrial disputes between Dassault Aviation and Airbus Defence & Space. The project aimed to create a successor to the Dassault Rafale and Eurofighter combat aircraft, with an expected operational introduction around 2040. Despite efforts to mediate the dispute, differences over the division of work led to the project's collapse. The termination was announced on the eve of the ILA Berlin air show.
