Marian Zacharski, PRL Spy, Recruited US Engineer William Bell to Steal NATO Secrets
Marian Zacharski, a Polish intelligence agent from the Polish People's Republic (PRL), successfully recruited American engineer William Bell to steal thousands of pages of classified documents related to advanced U.S. military technology during the Cold War. Zacharski, operating in the U.S. as a Polish trader for 'POLAMCO,' a Polish-American company, befriended Bell, a manager of advanced radar and other projects at Hughes Aircraft Company, which worked primarily for the U.S. Department of Defense. Bell, facing financial difficulties, was initially paid a few thousand dollars for public information, but was later blackmailed into providing increasingly sensitive and classified data. This included technical documentation for modern radars, missiles, F-15 fighter jet versions, and even service data for sonars used on nuclear submarines.
