Cape Cod Experiences Nesting Season Amid Variable June Weather
As migratory birds return to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, they are entering a critical nesting season. According to the Cape Cod Chronicle, birds are busy claiming territories, attracting mates, and building nests using materials such as dried grasses, twigs, mud, and even unconventional items like plastic or snakeskin. However, human activity, such as approaching nests for photographs or using binoculars in nesting areas, poses risks by inadvertently alerting predators like crows to nest locations. Nesting is a vulnerable time for birds, and their success depends on maintaining privacy and minimizing disturbances. Meanwhile, Cape Cod residents are experiencing the region's typical late spring weather, characterized by chilly, damp conditions in early June, which often transition abruptly into the heat of July. This variability requires residents to adapt to fluctuating temperatures throughout the day.
