AI Chatbots as Emotional Support Tools Raise Concerns Among Young Europeans
A recent survey conducted by Ipsos BVA reveals that nearly half of young Europeans are turning to AI chatbots for emotional support. The survey, commissioned by France's privacy watchdog CNIL and insurer Groupe VYV, included participants aged 11 to 25 from France, Germany, Sweden, and Ireland. It found that 51% of respondents found it easy to discuss mental health issues with chatbots, compared to 49% with healthcare professionals. The constant availability and non-judgmental nature of AI tools are cited as key reasons for their popularity. However, experts like Ludwig Franke Føyen warn about the limitations of AI in providing emotional support and the potential psychological impact.
