Doctors Urge Precautions as Wildfire Smoke Lingers Over Toledo Area
In Toledo, Ohio, doctors are advising residents to take precautions as wildfire smoke continues to affect the area. Despite some improvement in the Air Quality Index, the smoke remains a health concern due to invisible particulate matter that can enter the lungs. Dr. Vinod Khatri, a pulmonologist at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, emphasized the risks to vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with conditions like COPD or asthma. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed, use HEPA filters, and avoid outdoor physical activities. The hospital has seen an increase in emergency room visits related to poor air quality.
