Severe Thunderstorms and Flash Flooding Hit New York City
New York City and surrounding areas experienced severe thunderstorms and flash flooding on Saturday, following days of smoky skies and high temperatures. The National Weather Service reported that 2 to 4 inches of rain fell by early afternoon, with rainfall rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour. A flood watch was issued for all five boroughs, southern Westchester County, and northeast New Jersey, lasting until 2 a.m. Sunday. The heavy rain caused significant disruptions, including blocked roads, subway service interruptions, and flight delays at major airports. The storm also led to the rescheduling of a Yankees-Dodgers game and widespread flooding in areas like lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
