The proposal, introduced by President Zulma R. Toro, aims to enhance applied learning and research, aligning with industry needs. Critics, including Dr. Timothy Scott from the CCSU Faculty Senate, argue that this shift could undermine the university's traditional mission of broad public education. They fear it may prioritize technical fields over humanities and social sciences, potentially transforming CCSU into an 'AI factory.' A petition against the proposal has garnered over 310 signatures, reflecting widespread concern about the university's future direction.
