US and Morocco Strengthen Defense Ties with New Drone Training Center
The United States and Morocco are enhancing their defense collaboration by establishing Africa's first dedicated drone training center in Morocco. This initiative, announced by Gen. Christopher Donahue, commander of US Army Europe and Africa, aims to train operators from across Africa in the use of small unmanned aerial systems (UAS), loitering munitions, and integrated electronic warfare operations. The training center will leverage the upcoming African Lion 2026 exercises as a proving ground before becoming a permanent regional node supported by AFRICOM. This development follows Morocco's strategic investments in defense technology, including the local production of Israeli-designed SpyX loitering munitions and the integration of advanced Israeli and Turkish defense systems.
