HUD Employees Allege Trump Administration Blocks Fair Housing Enforcement
A group of current and former employees from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have launched a website to voice concerns that the Trump administration is obstructing the enforcement of federal fair housing laws. These employees, who have chosen to remain anonymous due to fear of retaliation, claim that the administration is selectively enforcing the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, gender, family status, or disability. The employees allege that HUD is not allowing investigations into cases involving race and gender discrimination, and that the agency is pressuring states to comply with its new priorities, which exclude certain discrimination cases. This has led to a lawsuit from fifteen states and the District of Columbia, challenging the administration's changes as arbitrary and unconstitutional.
