MIT Researchers Develop Language Network in Human Brain Connectomes
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a language network within the individualized functional connectomes of 1,199 human brains. This study, conducted using fMRI data, aimed to understand how language networks are organized in the brain. The research involved analyzing brain scans from participants in the Boston area, using a 3 Tesla Siemens scanner. The study found that language networks, labeled as LangFC, are nearly identical within individuals, regardless of the reference atlas used. This discovery is significant as it suggests a consistent spatial organization of language networks across different individuals. The research utilized various tasks to evaluate the functional connectivity of these networks, including language, social cognition, and high-level vision tasks. The findings indicate that the LangFC networks are stable within individuals but vary between them, providing insights into the individualized nature of brain connectivity.
