Nonprofits Face Reporting Burden, Call for Standardized Frameworks to Enhance Efficiency
Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) globally are grappling with a significant reporting burden, often spending considerable time preparing diverse reports for various funders, each with unique templates and requirements. This lack of standardization means NPOs frequently repackage the same information, diverting resources from their core missions. A recent paper, based on interviews with 21 nonprofit stakeholders from multiple countries including the U.S., highlights this challenge. While the International Non-Profit Accounting Standard, launched in 2025, provides a foundation for financial standardization, it primarily focuses on financial reporting and lacks comprehensive non-financial reporting guidelines.
