Israeli Forces Detain Two Activists from Gaza Flotilla, Allegations of Torture Emerge
Two activists, Saif Abu Keshek from Spain and Thiago Avila from Brazil, have been detained by Israeli forces after being part of a humanitarian flotilla aiming to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The flotilla, consisting of over 50 vessels, was intercepted in international waters near Greece. While most of the 175 activists were released, Abu Keshek and Avila remain in custody. Both have been on a hunger strike and have reported being subjected to physical violence and stress positions during their detention. The Israeli human rights organization Adalah has documented these allegations, and international protests have arisen, with Spain and Turkey condemning the detentions.
