Heart Mountain Pilgrimage Highlights Japanese American Incarceration History
A gathering of 125 organizers, artists, donors, and community leaders from 21 states took place at Heart Mountain in Powell, Wyoming, one of the ten incarceration camps for Japanese Americans during World War II. The event aimed to remember and reflect on the history of Japanese American incarceration under Executive Order 9066, which led to the confinement of over 120,000 individuals without charge or trial. The gathering coincided with the 250th anniversary of the United States, serving as a reminder of the country's complex history and the need to acknowledge past injustices. Participants included descendants of those incarcerated, who shared personal stories and experiences.
