Heat Advisories Issued for 64 Florida Counties Amid Dangerous Conditions
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued heat advisories for 64 of Florida's 67 counties as of August 12, 2026. This marks the second consecutive day of widespread advisories, with heat indices expected to range between 105°F and 110°F (40.5°C to 43.3°C). The advisories exclude only three counties in the western Panhandle. The prolonged heat is attributed to a Bermuda High system and a heat dome moving eastward across the southern U.S. Cities like Orlando, Tampa, and Miami are forecast to experience mid-90s°F (mid-30s°C) temperatures, with high humidity exacerbating conditions. Rain chances remain low due to a Saharan Dust Layer, though isolated thunderstorms may provide brief relief. The NWS warns that exposure to full sunshine can increase heat index values by up to 15°F (8.3°C).
