Minnesota Attorney General Sues Texas Governor Over Extradition of ICE Agent Charged in Minneapolis Shooting
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed a federal lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott to compel the extradition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Christian Castro. Castro is charged with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime in connection with a nonfatal shooting in Minneapolis on January 14. Prosecutors allege Castro fired a gun at an occupied home, striking a Venezuelan man in the leg, and then lied about the incident. A Hennepin County District Court judge found probable cause for the charges and issued a nationwide warrant for Castro's arrest. Texas Rangers arrested Castro on May 29, and he has been detained in Cameron County, Texas, pending extradition.
