Tempest Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet May Enter Service Earlier Than Planned
Lorenzo Mariani, CEO of Leonardo, announced that the sixth-generation fighter jet, developed under the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), could enter service two years earlier than the planned 2035 date. This acceleration is contingent upon modifying some requirements for the 'initial version' of the aircraft. The GCAP, known as Tempest, involves collaboration between the UK, Italy, and Japan. The urgency to operationalize the aircraft sooner is driven by the need for advanced multi-domain systems.
