Petersburg Tenants Allege Unsanitary Conditions and Unresponsive Management at Perry Street Lofts
Tenants at Perry Street Lofts in Petersburg, Virginia, are reporting severe living conditions, including infestations of roaches, raw sewage issues, and mold growth, coupled with an unresponsive management company. Kiara White, a tenant, described her experience as a 'nightmare,' stating that management has offered excuses rather than solutions to maintenance concerns. Recent sewage leaks led to the city shutting off water and apartment evacuations. Despite documentation of these issues, including city notices and personal records of roaches and mold, the management company, GoldOllier, is reportedly refusing to allow tenants to break their leases without penalty. White faces nearly $3,000 in fines plus two months' rent and fees, totaling over $4,500, after giving her 60-day notice. Virginia State Senator Lashrecse Aird has criticized the conditions as unacceptable, while attempts to contact GoldOllier have only resulted in automated out-of-office responses.
