Defendant in Judge Shooting Case Granted Supervised Video Visitations
Nevaeh Bell, a defendant in the shooting case involving Tippecanoe County Judge Steven Meyer, has been granted supervised video visitations with her mother. Bell, who is currently held at the Benton County Sheriff’s Department, appeared in court in Cass County. Jailer Christy Minard testified that Bell has no contact with other inmates and that the facility is equipped for video chats. Bell's mother requested video chats to avoid long-distance travel, and Bell herself testified that she would adhere to court rules. Prosecuting attorneys objected to the video chats, citing Bell’s alleged gang ties. However, Judge Lisa Swaim ruled that Bell can have one supervised 20-minute video chat per week with her mother, monitored by jail staff, prosecutors, and defense attorneys. Bell currently has access to a tablet for a law library, music, and books.
