Nevada State Railroad Museum Opens New Visitor Center to Boost Tourism Beyond Las Vegas
The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City has officially opened a new 3,800-square-foot visitor center, coinciding with the museum's 35th anniversary. The grand opening saw hundreds of attendees, including Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, Congresswoman Dina Titus, and Christopher MacMahon, director of the museum. The $23 million project, funded by Conserve Nevada Bonds, aims to diversify Nevada's tourism appeal beyond the gaming and entertainment hub of Las Vegas. The center features various exhibits detailing the role of railroads in Nevada's history, including their impact on mining booms, the construction of the Hoover Dam, and the top-secret Jackass & Western Railroad at the Nevada Test Site. It also includes a museum store, a welcome plaza, and a railroad passenger loading area.
