Cuban Dancer Adapts to Economic Crisis by Teaching in Streets
Juan Miguel Mas, a prominent Cuban dancer and choreographer, has shifted his focus from performing in prestigious venues to conducting dance workshops and classes for children in his community. This change comes as Cuba faces one of its worst economic crises in decades, marked by blackouts, water outages, and soaring costs. The cultural sector has been particularly hard hit, with many artists leaving the country and a lack of production budgets leading to the cancellation of shows. Despite these challenges, Mas remains committed to staying in Cuba and bringing the knowledge of art to children, transforming street corners into stages for performances.
