Milwaukee Maintains Flock Cameras Amidst Regional Discontinuation, Introduces Transparency Portal
While several agencies in southeast Wisconsin are discontinuing their use of Flock cameras due to data concerns, Milwaukee is retaining the technology and implementing new transparency measures. The Racine County Sheriff's Office, Fond du Lac County, and Sheboygan are ending their contracts with Flock over issues related to data disclosure and usage. Kenosha began transitioning away from Flock in January, opting for Axon. In contrast, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office launched a public portal on Friday to provide insight into how Flock cameras are utilized. Additionally, Milwaukee has introduced new rules limiting access to Flock data to supervisors only. These changes follow criminal charges against two former Milwaukee Police Department officers for alleged personal use of Flock data and an incident where a Milwaukee woman was incorrectly flagged and pulled over at gunpoint in Brookfield.
