New York Man Arrested in Stamford for Role in $100,000 Courier Scam Targeting Elderly Victim
A New York City man has been arrested in Stamford, Connecticut, in connection with a 'courier scam' that defrauded an 82-year-old victim of over $100,000. The suspect, Qianlin Zheng, 28, of Flushing, Queens, was apprehended after traveling to Stamford to receive a package he believed contained approximately $15,000 in cash. Stamford police reported that Zheng was charged with second-degree larceny. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the scam, which typically involves fraudsters impersonating officials or bank representatives to trick victims into sending money or valuables via courier. Zheng was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on September 9.
