Severe Weather Threatens Illinois Counties with Tornadoes and Hail
Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact several counties in Illinois, with the National Weather Service warning of potential tornadoes, strong winds, and hail. The greatest risk for tornadoes is identified south of the Kankakee and Illinois River valleys. In Chicago, showers are anticipated before noon, followed by stronger storms between noon and 3 p.m. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph. The threat of severe thunderstorms is highest south of Interstate 80, although this could change if the warm front moves further north than predicted. Rainfall today may lead to localized flooding and rising river levels, particularly affecting areas that have recently seen high water levels, such as the Fox River and Des Plaines River.
