Canadian PM Carney Nears Majority Government Amid Special Elections
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is on the brink of securing a majority government as special elections take place in three districts. The elections are being held in the Toronto-area districts of Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale, as well as the Montreal-area district of Terrebonne. Carney's Liberal Party needs to win just one of these districts to achieve a majority in the House of Commons, which would allow them to pass legislation unilaterally. The Liberals currently hold 171 seats and require 172 for a majority. The results of these elections are expected to be announced soon.
