Charlotte Water Implements Mandatory Restrictions Amid Persistent Drought
Charlotte Water has enforced mandatory water restrictions since May 15, aiming to reduce overall water usage by 5% to 10%. As of last week, the city has exceeded its target by more than 5%. Despite recent above-average rainfall, drought conditions persist in the Charlotte area, necessitating continued restrictions. These restrictions prohibit non-essential activities such as filling pools and operating ornamental fountains. Charlotte Water has issued 84 violations to customers for restricted water use, with fines starting at $100 and increasing for repeated offenses. Additionally, 23 exceptions have been approved for specific circumstances, including health and safety concerns and critical business operations.
