Parents Reunite with Terminally Ill Son After Release from DHS Detention
The parents of Kevin González, an 18-year-old U.S. citizen with terminal colon cancer, have been reunited with their son after being released from a Department of Homeland Security detention facility in Arizona. Isidoro González Avilés and Norma Anabel Ramírez Amaya, both Mexican nationals, were detained after attempting to reenter the U.S. to be with their son following his diagnosis. The couple had previously been deported and were denied visas due to their past unlawful entries. After their release, they traveled to Durango, Mexico, where they were able to embrace their son. Kevin, who was diagnosed while visiting family in Chicago, expressed gratitude for the reunion, which was facilitated by a U.S. district judge's order.
