Wisconsin Reflects on Historic Flooding One Year Later
One year after record-breaking rainfall caused catastrophic flooding in southeast Wisconsin, recovery efforts are still ongoing. On August 9, 2025, over a foot of rain fell in some areas within 24 hours, setting a new state record of 14.55 inches in Milwaukee. The storm caused widespread damage, including the destruction of 51 homes and major damage to 1,500 others across Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided $208 million in assistance to nearly 37,000 households, but denied federal aid for public infrastructure repairs, leaving local governments to cover $43.2 million in damages.
