Two Women Scammed by Impersonator Posing as Steelers Player Eli Heidenreich
Two women from the Pittsburgh area, aged 20 and 50, have reportedly been scammed out of $1,000 by an individual pretending to be Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Eli Heidenreich. The incident, reported by WPXI’s Jess Shannon, occurred in Avella, Washington County. Details regarding how the scam was executed or what the impersonator said to convince the victims are currently scarce, and there is no known suspect at this time. This incident follows a similar, larger-scale scam involving an individual who allegedly defrauded over 24 women of more than $1.3 million by pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, Daejon Love, who was charged by the Justice Department in late August. Impersonation scams involving NFL players are not new, with past instances including individuals posing as former Steelers players like Jerame Tuman and Ben Roethlisberger.
